Project Genesis and Amethyst Homes are preparing new plans for development at Derwent View, Consett.

​

Following the granting of planning permission for a new community hospital and the commencement of ground works, we are now looking to take forward development of the wider site. The proposed development includes the delivery of 120 high-quality new homes, along with a new assisted living facility by Karbon Homes to care for the elderly and those with additional support needs. The proposal also includes associated access, landscaping and open space as well as localised improvements to walking and cycle links.

Who are Project Genesis and Amethyst Homes?

Project Genesis

The Project Genesis Trust was formed in 1994 as a registered charity to regenerate the site of the former Consett Steelworks and reinvest the funds from the development in the provision of environmental, recreational and social benefits to local people. The overall vision of Project Genesis is to achieve the comprehensive redevelopment of the former steelworks site including the wider regeneration of Consett Town Centre.

 

Since its formation, Project Genesis has facilitated over £200m of investment in the former steelworks site which has been totally transformed. Land has been redevelopment for commercial, industrial, residential and amenity uses in accordance with a comprehensive masterplan, which is acknowledged in the County Durham Plan. The application site forms part of the former steelworks site, with Project Genesis keen to deliver continued regeneration and much needed new homes within Consett.
